Sub-Accounts in Chart of Accounts
This feature would allow users to classify accounts in the Chart of Accounts as "Parent" and "Child". The Parent account is the sum of all the Child, or sub-accounts, under it. This structure would be applied for every type of account (COGS, Expense, Income, etc). The feature would also allow users to re-classify existing accounts as "sub-accounts" or Child accounts of existing Parent accounts.
This feature is the basic structure which can be used to create more powerful reporting. For example in the Profit & Loss a user could see the detail and summary views of the P&L. The detail view would display all Parent & Child accounts and the summary view would display only Parent accounts. This allows for a quick general understanding of the business and more detailed view for accountants and book keepers.
If you also want to see sub-accounts, give this idea some votes! :)
Best,
Emily

Reporting is very important for executives.
Not having reporting options is some what a big turn off for a lot of people.ZOHO BOOKS is a strong suite, but lacking flexibility on reports.
(That includes the Check Format choices, too restrictive). -

Please add subaccounts! It's the only thing missing in zoho books.

This feature is still very important. Yes, some have learned to "adapt", etc. but some of do not want to or are not able. Our accountant keeps separate books because of this one lacking feature. This took forever to be considered (was stated that it was coming then nothing) and has now been under review for a bit. Is there a timeline?

Will this ever be installed. This has by far the most votes and is so necessary and basic as a feature. We haven't fully committed to Zoho yet and I am concerned to do so unless we know for sure this is going to happen.

After a couple months of using Zohobooks, I've decided to amend my initial feature request. It is important, but not as much as I thought it was. I've since moved all of my accounts from Quickbooks to Zohobooks and I simply set my accounts with similar names and I have not run into any substantial problem without having the sub-accounts. For example, all COGS accounts are still summed collectively in the P&L, as are all expenses. The basics are there and since you can export the P&L to Excel, it's easy to roll up specific accounts that you really need to see combined. (How often do you really do this anyway?) I've actually found the lack of sub-accounts very refreshing and simple. Give it a shot! Try naming your accounts like this COGS: Labor and COGS: Materials... that way if sub-accounts feature is developed in the future, you can easily specify them later. Although it is a traditional feature that you'd expect from a standard accounting system, after living without it for 5 months, I find I don't NEED it. My accounting is thriving without it and Zohobooks in general is worlds ahead of Quickbooks in terms of customer service, support, feature reporting, multiple users, API integrations, cheaper ways to collect payment from online invoices - they actually care about how you use Zohobooks and ultimately about your success. Although the development for certain features is not always at the speed you'd like, they do value your feedback and the feedback from the community and aim to launch products that will help the most people. Imagine having an entire tech team at your finger tips to develop your accounting software the way you want it - that's pretty incredible. If you want a standard accounting system with sub-accounts, sure, use QuickBooks (good luck with that), but if you want something different - an entire platform for growing your business with infinite support, I definitely recommend giving Zohobooks a try! I'm so glad I did!!

This is your response four months ago:
We would like to let you know that, creating sub accounts is in one of our priority list. We'll update this space soon after progress is made in this regard. At this point, we are unable to commit any timeframe. However, it isn't too long from now. Soon the feature will be available in Zoho Books.
This is a follow response to the four months old response:
We have taken up this feature. We expect it to be available by the end of April. Will keep this space updated on the status of this feature as it progresses.
Then three months ago:
We have just begun to work on this option. It will at least take a month or two to complete it entirely and then test it. Once that is done, we will be able to provide you with the early access link. We will definitely keep you updated on that.
And then fourteen days ago!:
We understand that sub-accounts is a very valuable feature have in Zoho Books. However, we do not have see it available in the near future. So what is the story? Is sub-account coming or not? This is A-MUST f or any accounting system. Why don't you slow down on coming up with have cooked products such as Expenses and Inventory and mobile applications, and instead divert some resources to the existing products such as Zoho Books. This request has been going on for more than three years! Come on!
Have more consideration to for your customers. Thank you!

Of all of the Web-enabled accounting systems I've evaluated, only QBO presently offers this functionality. Adding it to Zoho Books would be a substantial differentiator versus competitors such as Wave.

Is there an update to this? In the forums it was mentioned this was started already and in one or two months there would be early access. Thank you.

As an added benefit, this would allow us to not have to get as creative with our contact names for customers who have a central A/P location but multiple work locations (we do on site services).
