I use a sales order as a proforma with a modified template, however there is no way of allowing the client to pay by card through the portal so a proper proforma section that automatically creates a corresponding VAT invoice when paid would be a treat for us all.

Yes this is very important, Now i have to create 2 template and use the PI template to send out Pro forma invoice and then later i have convert it to Invoice template, This should be included in the Zoho books process . This is very important flow

i use retainer invoice as P.I. and is more usefull. and technically sounds good aswell. i always mention my client our process. Like for advance payment we will first make quotation- IF they accepted ( On advance payment) Convert quote in retainer and sales order- After successful shipment. Raise the invoice. You can record retainer payments as advance payment which can apply to the invoice later once its raised. Quite simple. and really good in use. Make this a practice.

We are using Zoho for the past 7 years. Zoho still not updating this feature. If we talk to them they will reply we have roadmap/pipeline and so on.

Proforma Invoice is necessary because more than 50% of our trade is based on advance payment.
And Retainer Invoice does not reflect Sales Order, so all the contents need to be entered again.
Currently in order to create Proforma Invoice, I need to change title of Sales Order or Invoice.

Proforma Invoice is having the similar idea of retainer invoice. it is an invoice for the advance payment!

Also Estimate and Quotation are the same. There is no difference at all. Maybe in your own company make it different, but at the end, it is a price offer. The terms and conditions makes the difference. Example: you are doing a painting job for massive residential project. Normally what counts is the unit rate (Square Meter/foot). So in the terms and conditions you may mention that the quantities set the maximum quantity whereas the payable quantity is the invoiced quantity. Exceeding the Quoted quantity must have an additional PO or PO must be revised.

Also for a consultant hourly rate and/or hourly based services, you may do the same above. It is very hard for a developer to match all kinds of internal procedures for their client. Therefore, the ability to rename the Estimate in the templates is a key feature for this software. It makes great deal of variable options.

The Estimate report can be renamed Proforma Invoice. However what is really missing is the Quotation. Needless to say the difference is Quote is for 1 piece per item / SKU while Proforma is when the customer give the quantities per item / SKU

It is the most basic feature of any business, I dont know why zoho is missing this feature. Please make this feature available as it is the most important and required feature of any business. onlly invoice is not sufficient.

PI is a must-have
Why:
- it is a basic accounting function
- PI can be applied with payment terms and auto-reminders can be applied.

Proforma Invoices are essential with worldwide trade. Please sort this out as soon as you can.
