    i use retainer invoice as P.I. and is more usefull. and technically sounds good aswell. i always mention my client our process. Like for advance payment we will first make quotation- IF they accepted ( On advance payment) Convert quote in retainer and sales order- After successful shipment. Raise the invoice. You can record retainer payments as advance payment which can apply to the invoice later once its raised. Quite simple. and really good in use. Make this a practice.
