Profit report by project
As time entries are linked to projects, invoices, expenses and bills should also be assigned to projects. That way a profit report by project could would also be possible.
Hi,
We now have the option to run Profit and Loss reports based on Projects.
You can go to Profit and Loss report and click on the customise option, you will see the option to select a Project there.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Zoho Books Team.

Sorry Guys, as brilliant an Idea as Lucy Beck had, It wont work, as we are limited to 10 tags.

Lucy Beck, That is a brilliantly simple idea.
Well done you. -

This can be achieved by using tags in Zoho Books and then exporting to Zoho Reports. Work with a Zohopartner to get this configured correctly.

My previous note about Vendor Purchase Orders, unfortunately, does not apply to non-PO bills from Vendors.

I have found in recent weeks that now we can add a customer into Vendor Purchase Orders. By associating to a customer we ~can (not ideal) create a customer record for each job (QBO currently has this work around also) and then associate expenses to a job by that customer record. The ability to tag bank transactions (expenses) to a job is also working but the REAL issue now is the reporting of that data. There are numerous & time consuming limitations for reporting P&Ls by job, we currently track on XL. ESPECIALLY in the reimbursed expenses arena. We are sorry to have to consider other options for our financials at this point.

I'm currently evaluating Zoho for a customer, and the ability to allocate expenses in the form of POs is a "must have" for them, and will prevent me from going live.

I do not agree with the comment "For professional service business this feature is not needed, (as all they sell is time)."
We are a Professional Services business and our Partners track client project costs -Employees, Contractors, Specialists and expenses against each Job. -

For professional service business this feature is not needed, (as all they sell is time).
However, for Engineering and Construction sectors, it is a MUST. -

we really need this for our company

As a Zoho Partner we have several customers requesting this feature. Most are making purchasing decisions on items like this not yet built in Zoho Books. Please can this item be reviewed and added to the road map. It would appear many other customers also require this functionality.

Any way to do this? Maybe a 3rd party app in the meantime? I would hate to have to do thru excel

I am exactly looking for the same solution, determine how profitable a project was based on the balance between client invoice and project expenses.bills.
Any news on this? -

This has been on 'the board' for over 15 months, we almost switched here in 2016 to another SW but if this isn't fixed in 2016 we will have to move on...any progress? We have to manually track (via XL) our P&Ls by project. This is incredibly frustrating and causes errors by the other team members. Sales Orders, Purchase Orders & Vendor Bills also need to be tied to Projects to make this more accurate! See my previous comments from 2014-2015.

Incredible there´s no report to see how profitable was a particular project... somebody found another way to do this?

Please update us on the status 'under review' for this!

I'd especially like the ability to link a Bill to a Project. I create "Recurring Bills" for all my freelancers and without the ability to link them to a project, the ROI calculation is definitely wrong.

Should have the ability to assigned expense credits to a project also.

Highly critical. When is this planned to be implemented?

Critical! For more background, I am particularly into this for contract workers and print costs running through my studio (I'm a designer) - so my invoice costs MUST be looked at with a report of the full interactions of the project.
