Transaction Description Search
When trying to reconcile many transactions (such as when you have imported a bank statement) you may have many transactions from or to the same place i.e. suppliers or customers.
A very simple, but vital requirement would be to just be able to search the transaction 'Description'. Currently, (using the advanced search) you can only search the 'Reference', but in the UK (for example) they do not provide a reference, only a description, therefore you have to manual go through each of the entries and locate the same ones which takes forever.
Strangely, using the search option at the top seems to search the description but only for categorised entries, even if this was updated to search uncategorised as well it would help enormously!

I will add comments here as there are many related to SEARCH and FILTER in many places. This one thread has the most votes. I notice from a previous comment of mine, it was 140 votes at one time.
SEARCH - would be improved by:
1 - all user suggestions requested here (could be summarised as searching in any field)
2 - allowing bulk actions (exclude/uncat/unmatch etc.) while using Search feature
It seems like these kind of things are requested for each of the different modules. So a ground-up look at SEARCH might be worthwhile.FILTER
3- some of the functionality of the above could overlap or be provided with a good FILTER on transactions. I mostly use Banking but suspect it is the same with other modules. SO
On Opening Banking module - you can filter transactions (Cat/UnCat/Reconciled etc). This is useful.
There might be DATE RANGE would be the most useful one I suspect to most users.
Then users do not have to go through pages of transactions to find the ones the want for bulk actions.
(Since bulk actions are lost with use of Search)
4 - Complex or Cumulative or Layered Filters. Why not click options or build criteria - Categorised+Unreconciled+Date Range for example?
A filter pane button to get to all the options.THE VERY SIMPLEST - and it's probably requested somwhere already. Or I am misisng the feature - would be FILTER BY DATE on TRANSACTIONS. (e.g. in Banking) - that way Bulk actions can still be carried out. In lieu of a ground-up look at SEARCH AND FILTER, this would be a relatively simple (I imagine) solution.
*ALSO*
Best not to limit what actions can be taken based on existing filter. e.g.I choose Unreconciled txns - I jump to page where the dates are but because they are Categorised, I can't exclude them in bulk.
These were all duplicate statement entries, which were Categorised by Rules then discovered to be dupes during reconciliation.
Not easy to delete them now in bulk without: - 1)select single txn - 2) uncategorise - 3) confirm - 4) wait for update - 5) click next - Repeat. x tens of transactions!
Once again, basic FILTER would help. I would like to select
All Unreconciled + Categorised
then Bulk Select - ACtion (Excluse or Uncategorise or whatever) -

Everyone here speaks my mind and I gave a chat tech an "earful" this week about this. This is a simple implementation, to add a text box to a search field to be able to search description fields. Should take an hour to implement and push out. Honestly, this is a ridiculous oversight and should be fixed immediately. Moreover, I agree that searching on all fields, across all types of accounts is vital. The data exists and we need to be able to search in multiple ways for a large variety of reasons. This is a database. The entire purpose and value of a database is to be able to search and compare data in different ways. The tech said he'd be talking to the developers about this and get back to me but it's been days with no word. I have also spent HOURS setting up, figuring out, and syncing/importing/categorizing transactions. I just about cried when I realized this obvious but essential function was missing. What on earth, Zoho?

There is a great feature in Quickbooks that enables you to search the entire database for any occurrence in a field.
For example
You can search for all occurrences or say $123 anywhere. This is handy for tracing duplications.
Search for all instances of <name> so you can pick up duplicated accounts. Sometimes an expense is posted to two different accounts.
Search for all occurrences of reference <?????> which will bring you a transaction you can trace in the bank account but may have been posted with the incorrect date.
It doesn't have to be wildcard but that would be a good thing too.

I support this suggestion. I also would suggest the ability to search by company name.

Absolutely necessary basic requirement. Also when you generate report- Ledger statement Description field is not shown/exported.

There 140 votes at the moment on this thread. Not sure if there is a larger one, but maybe let's try build around one thread, if ppl can be bothered. Ideally ZB would rationalise this themselves down to one. If you find the same request with more votes, let's build those.

This is an essential feature! Should be easy to implement and would make life SO much easier. PLEASE keep transaction description field and allow it to be searched!

I'm about to delete my account (after loading data for 2 days) because I cannot search transactions by description to verify a transaction was categorized correctly.
It would be even better if the "All Transactions" listed description instead of Reference# (or in addition). You could scan the transactions and see that correctly described transactions ended up in the correct expense categories.

How is this not a feature?? How basic is this for any kind of bookkeeping??

I don't see why Zoho removes description after the transaction is categorised, this makes no sense and is a pain in the ass to search for a transaction in case you need it. Please just keep transaction description after it is categorised! simple!

Agreed. The transaction matching is currently woefully inadequate.
