An error occurred while saving the comment Donald Love commentedThis seems so simple... both as an exceptionally basic need for bookkeeping (in the US, at least) and from an implementation standpoint.
If Zoho Books wants to make inroads in the US with small businesses, they simply must get some of these baseline things correct. Deposits and normal statements (open invoices only) are table stakes here.

An error occurred while saving the comment Donald Love commentedTo add to the voices here, the Zoho Books version of a "statement" is very odd and unconventional. Customers don't know what to do with it.
Seriously, Zoho engineers need to go sign up for a normal bookkeeping software and see what a statement looks like. It's unpaid invoices along with aging information (current, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days).
Having the full record of transactions for a customer might be sort of useful in some edge cases, but in the US at least, that makes for a totally unfamiliar experience for those receiving the statement.

An error occurred while saving the comment Donald Love commentedJust in general, it seems like a terribly poor idea to intentionally cripple Manual Journal entries.

An error occurred while saving the comment Donald Love commentedI know nobody comes here looking for alternatives to their idea, but after switching to a payroll processor, I can't believe anyone deals with payroll themselves anymore. So much easier.
Our bank resells / rebrands one of the big guys (I think SurePayroll). For $59/mo, all I do is enter hours and they do literally everything else other than making the one entry in my books to record the payroll payment.
Given that the going rate (Quickbooks) is at least $40ish/mo for a payroll module that doesn't take care of any filings, it seems like a super smart move to just contract with one of the zillion services out there and free up your time from all of the filings and hassle.
I'd rather see Zoho Books partner with as many of the third-party providers as possible to make the payment entries even easier.

An error occurred while saving the comment Donald Love commentedThe need for sales receipts goes beyond cash sales. Any transaction where the product is paid for during the order is correctly recorded as a sales receipt NOT an invoice.
The difference is that a sales receipt in one transaction moves the product out of inventory AND records payment to the appropriate account. An invoice implies a delay between shipment and payment.
Forcing users to record an invoice and then a separate payment is both inconvenient and not correctly reflecting what actually happened in the transaction.

I'm not sure why Zoho hasn't updated this, but the Composite Items functionality within Inventory is working and does what the OP and many (most?) manufacturers need for at least baseline manufacturing operations.
Their nomenclature is terrible, but "Bundling" items is essentially manufacturing said items. Each Composite Item has a BOM (they call it "Associated Items") that can include labor. Bundling (aka assembling) a new composite item has the expected impacts to BOM item inventory counts and accounting values.
As with anything, there are improvements that could be made, but the basic functionality appears to currently be available.
