Item Purchase Information is useless

What is the point of a "Purchase Cost" in Purchase Information??? This area should show two values to be useful - and should be automatic
1.) Most Recent Purchase Cost - what you last bought the item for - this would be pulled from the most recent purchase order.
2.) Average Inventory Cost - this is the FIFO weighted value of the items.

Both these values help the user understand the average cost, recent cost, future cost, and is VERY HELPFUL in determining how to price an item.
As I understand the current implementation, the Purchase Cost is simply an input, and may feed to a PO - but otherwise is just a placeholder, and does not even automatically update.

    Well stated John - Inventory Management is based around knowing product cost.
    It is now PLANNED !!! GREAT !!!!

    And, I should have stated - this is the value shown for an item, when looking at Items / (specific item) - in the Purchase Information area - and can be edited in the Purchase Information / Purchase Price field. Thanks
